Southwest Traditions:
Wearing Turquoise

Turquoise provides protection and health for the Navajo, and it features in healing rituals and in every important event in the life of an individual: at birth, puberty, marriage, and initiation ceremonies. Turquoise is a link to the place of origin, to supernatural beings, to the sun, the sky, and rain. Turquoise provides a rich, full life and beauty throughout.

Old jewelry has been valued since the beginning. By being worn and loved, it developed a life of its own. It is also a form of inheritance, of personal and economic value.
